Adding raw or lightly cooked garlic and onions to your meals may help keep you healthy. Both foods appear to possess antiviral and antibacterial properties and are believed to boost immunity. As well as the health benefits garlic and onion are full of fabulous flavour and are a simple but effective addition to most dishes!
Eating a clove of garlic may not be your idea of a tasty healthy snack but include it in stews, soups, sauces and casseroles. Its antimicrobial action can help destroy infections before they take hold. Leeks and onions contain similar immune-supporting chemicals as garlic, though not in such concentrated measures. Their additional benefit though is that they can provide vitamins C and B6, two important vitamins in keeping sufficient immune cells circulating. Like garlic these flavoursome vegetables can be included in soups and casseroles and are also delicious roasted.
